Holiday Exploration with timbr-DBpedia
Athletes Born on Christmas; Where At?
In order to figure out the birthplace of athletes born on Christmas, we queried all the athletes in the DBpedia knowledge base and filtered them, showing only those who were born on the 25th of December. The results showed 1290 athletes.
Next, we traced the athletes’ birthplace.
Trying to go through a list of hundreds of locations didn’t seem like the best way to present the findings, so we decided to present the results in the form of a map in our built-in BI module. This was accomplished by searching for the birthplaces’ Lat-Long coordinates also found in DBpedia. We were then ready to create the visualization.
After plugging the results into the map visualization we were able to see the number of athletes born by location in the world. It was now clear that a large number of athletes born on Christmas were born across the USA and Europe, specifically in western Europe.
