ODBC
JDBC
MDX

Timbr integrates seamlessly with the tools and platforms you already use, through ODBC, JDBC, and MDX support.

This means your semantic models are accessible directly from BI dashboards, reporting tools, Excel, OLAP engines, and enterprise applications without custom development or new interfaces.

Whether you’re using Tableau, Power BI, Excel PivotTables, or legacy MDX-based systems, Timbr exposes the ontology as a native SQL-compatible source, enabling governed access to your data through familiar channels.

Supports relationships, hierarchies, and inheritance transparently.

How It Works

Timbr semantic layer is exposed through standard SQL endpoints over ODBC and JDBC drivers. Any tool that can connect to a SQL source can connect to Timbr, with no need to change how it communicates.
In MDX environments, Timbr leverages its hierarchical and relational modeling to support multidimensional expressions, exposing measures and dimensions as structured metadata compatible with OLAP tools.
  • ODBC/JDBC: Query concepts, relationships, and measures in SQL from BI tools, notebooks, or applications.
  • MDX: Leverage Timbr hierarchies and metrics for dimensional slicing, drill-down, and cube-based exploration. For more on how business users consume cubes in Excel and other OLAP tools, see: OLAP Consumption.
All queries go through Timbr’s virtual schemas, so users interact with the semantic model, not the raw database structure.

Key Benefits for Data Consumers

Timbr’s SQL layer dramatically improves the user experience for analysts, engineers, and business users alike:
  • Clarity: Query business concepts using familiar terms instead of raw table names.
  • Simplicity: Skip repetitive JOINs, relationships are modeled once and reused.
  • Efficiency: Focus on the insight, not the mechanics, queries are much shorter and easier to maintain.
  • Power: Traverse relationships, filter on inherited properties, and query across multiple domains in one step.
